The heat may break

September 2nd, 2013 at 12:54 am

Rumor has it we are to get a cold front and the oppressive heat here in the Midwest may have a break. This week was horrendous with the heat and humidity. I think yesterday was the worse and it seemed to even hurt to breathe.

DH harvested some of his carrots and we had them as part of our supper. I cleaned them, boiled them in water until soft, then drained and coated with butter and honey. Yum! It was less than two hours from soil to table.

We had meatloaf last night as well. I baked it in a toaster oven which kept the kitchen from heating up. I made a bigger loaf so we have some for sandwiches this week.

We don't have big plans for Labor Day other than appreciating the day off and the fact DH had a good job before he retired and I have a good job. What are your Labor Day plans?

I'm going to try to relax on Labor Day, but laundry and grocery shopping are on the list. And I KNOW you will have cooler weather. We are to your west and it is cooler! Enjoy. Smile

I, too, am REALLY wanting a heat break. In fact I already have a list of soups to pull from my freezer or make.

My plans for today are to hit a local charity resale shop that has BIG discounts on Mon holidays. Other than that it is the usual home chores (linens, laundry, vacuum.....).

We are shocked by our unseasonably warm weather although it drops so low at night the leaves are turning yellow. I've been cooking most meals in crock pot and toaster oven taking it one step further by moving the two appliances to the deck where DH set up the folding table to facilitate. We're eating meals primarily from the pantry as I've been trying to limit groceries to 10 items [nearly all fresh produce] each week. It's an interesting and challenging summer project.

It was a bit cooler today...85 which seems a lot better, but it is supposed to get in the 90s as the week goes on.

Snafu, I have been following your ten items challenge...you are a better person than I!
