And you saved...

June 12th, 2017 at 07:34 pm

Do you read those messages on your receipts from some of the stores that tell you how much you saved by shopping there?

Our public library is now putting that on the bottom of the checkout slips. Last week I checked out some magazines and some books and at the bottom it told me: "You just saved $89.89 by using your library. You have saved $513.71 since April 14, 2017."

Pretty cool!

Awesome. I'd have saved a lot on books! I am surprised by the number of people who buy so many books.

    WOW! That is neat!

I can't even imagine. I mostly check out ebooks any more, but was a voracious reader as a child, and mostly would never occur to me to buy books because my parents taught me to just utilize the library. (I am sure I'd rack up some big #s when I had all summer to do nothing but read). My husband also does the books on tape and is always renting music CDs. & we have a library of things, but I admit we never tried that yet. (I'd like to rent some of the board games, since my MH has a habit of buying a lot of games. In the end, it's fun to try them all, but only some are keepers or get used to the point you really need to *own* them).

I love that idea. I use the library a ton. Last month I wandered the book aisle at Walgreens, found an interesting book, took note of the name and author and then went home and checked to see if the library had it. It did, so I put it on hold and picked it up today. I do this all the time to save money. It would be cool if the library showed me how much I'd just saved.

We have those "you have saved" totals on shopping receipts too. The library sounds far better though because it is free!

LuckyRobin I totally agree that I do that all the time with books I find interesting.

I do think it is a great idea. Part of our property taxes go for the library so I think it shows how much bang for your buck you get. My husband reads to classes and checks out hundreds of books each year. I look forward to seeing what his total is.
