Too Hot to Cook?

Is it ever too hot to cook?

I live in the Midwest and we've had a hot week. Today, at supper time, it was 92 with a heat index of 108. I know places are hotter, but it is just miserable. One of my friends said he wasn't sure what he and his wife were going to come up for supper because it was too hot to cook. She had boiled eggs and made a salad and that might be supper.

I don't know about you, but when it gets so uncomfortable and I don't care about eating a lot. I normally have a very healthy appetite, so I can always tell when it's hot.

Tonight we had beef and noodles. The beef and broth were left over from a roast I had in the Crockpot earlier this week. I sliced some tomatoes, had cottage cheese, fruit and some bread I baked earlier in the week. It was more than sufficient and I'm sure glad I didn't need to heat up the oven. We do have air conditioning, but I hate to tax it even more than need be.

So, was it too hot to cook where you live?

I know what you mean. Fortunately (or unfortunately)it rarely gets over 70 degrees here in Northern Coastal California. I have to say though if I bake something it gets kind of hot in my house. I just open the windows and turn on the fan and it is fine.

sometimes it definately is. over the hottest part of summer it can get over 40 degrees C (not sure what that is in F). We usually have just salad, or salad and a bbq so cooking does not heat up the house and we can be outside in the breeze. There have been times when we have just eaten frozen fruit for dinner Smile now THAT is really good for cooling you down.

Not yet that hot here in Seattle. - actually it was but we were driving to Montana those days. If it does get too hot, its salads of various kinds with nuts and a bit of diced cold cuts give it a bit of body; yogurt & fruit; the grill; or the crockpot. Usually we are lucky that if it gets hot it cools down rapidly when the sun sets. So on the Friday/weekend nights we eat very, very late.

40C = 105F. Egg frying on the sidewalk day. Big Grin

haha good to know baselle Smile last summer the hottest was 44C I think - but it seems each summer breaks a record, so I'm not looking forward to this summer Frown

The national news last night showed a car dealership baking cookies on a dashboard of a car because it was so hot. The thermometer showed almost 200 degrees F in it.
