Stove Shopping Blues

July 15th, 2010 at 11:28 am

I hate to shop. I prefer to get in and get out. However, when it comes to big ticket items, I try to read Consumer Reports and also list what I want and donít want in an appliance.

We went to the library today and I decided to pick up the Consumer Reports Buying Guide. I was reading about stoves. I want a stainless steel smooth cook top electric stove. Iím amazed that two by the same company have almost equal ratings but one is $2000 more. Maybe I donít know what to do with one that has all these buttons on it, but for $2000 more, I think I can live without it. I want a stove that heats accurately and looks nice. I donít need or want 20 other odd buttons. Maybe there's something wrong with me.

Itís just downright depressing when you look at all those models and itís difficult to find what you want. Plus, very few places actually have a big inventory so itís either looking on-line or through a catalog.

So, after figuring out what I think I want, I started looking on-line. I figure it gives me a true goal to save for. I have looked at the various on-line sites and I think I have found what I want and a store near us.

Now, the hard partÖthe actually saving. But, itís also the fun part because every time I add a little to my total, I feel like Iím making progress.
According to the local price, Iím almost half way there so thatís a good thing!

I hope you find the stove you are looking for. I'm making another batch of your banana bread recipe. I'm adding some chocolate chips I have in the fridge. I'll let you know how it tastes with the chocolate chips.

Good luck with the stove hunt and savings. DBF and I just broke down and bought new appliances, including a stove. We did the brand research on Consumer Reports and then bought a reliable brand and a model with good reviews. I'm pretty sure our old appliances were original with the condo (i.e. mid 70's), so this will be an enormous improvement.

Adding the chocolate chips to the banana bread was a big hit. Delicious I must say. I used some mashed bananas I had in the freezer (from about two weeks ago). The bananas were good but if I store more again, they'll probably have to be used within a two week span. They sort of get watery.
