Saturday DH and I had the opportunity to take Amtrak to Chicago for the day. We had a lovely luncheon at the Walnut Room at Macy's and then walked around in some of the stores.
One of the buildings on State Street has escalators that either go to TJ Maxx or down to Burlington Coat Factory. We went to both to look around.
At Burlington there was a Prada purse with the marked down price of $1134.
Not being familiar with Prada, this kind of surprised me. I mean, I know Prada is pricey, but I guess I didn't realize it was that pricey, and that was the marked down price.
Yikes!
I looked at it and it was nice, but I'm not sure it was THAT nice.
At lunch yesterday at school, we were discussing it. One gal we work with is always buying expensive purses. But, the concensus was we couldn't see spending that much money on a purse.
We had a variety of reasons:
1. If we paid that much, we'd have to stuff it with newspaper because we wouldn't have any money left;
2. If we paid that much we'd have to carry it until it wore out and we'd be sick of it;
3. If we paid that much, we'd be sick because we don't like to spend more than $50 (and usually less) on a purse; and
4. Name brands aren't THAT important.
Needless to say I am Pradaless which is just fine.

My best thrift store find was a NWOT Dooney & Bourke barrel handbag in pink (my favorite color). And my mom bought it for me or $25.

If they use fresh from the farm/village staff you can get the real fabrication but poor workmanship. After several months those girls will be good enough to get hired at the real factory.
The fact is the culture in China is so-o different. They took another road to survive their turbulent history. Incredible numbers of parents have no money to send their children to schools which are private-for-profit institutions not government supported. Anything called The People's Republic of _____________ means individuals must do whatever it takes to get enough food to survive and some kind of shelter. There are no social programs, no food stamps, no food banks, no unemployment insurance, no foster parent programs
The people of China are very proud of the fact that people are no longer dying of starvation.

I have wonderful memories of dining in the Walnut Room (when it was Marshall Field's). I haven't been there in a while, but I might have to go back sometime this holiday season!

And seriously, that's an INSANE amount of money.
I have 3 main bags. A large leather bag the color of caramel that I like very much that I got extremely marked down at Kohl's a few years back for like $20. It's huge. I could fit a 20 pound turkey in there.
The 2nd bag is a very pretty blue leather with a big buckle, a birthday gift I picked out for myself from my ex, Dr. Bob. I think it was from mMay's.
The third is a Burberry plaid bag, another gift from another ex.

Does anyone else use *Kangaroo* organizer...lightweight insert with multi pockets to hold our stuff and transfer to another bag intact.
