I was called cheap

We were talking about food and grocery shopping at work the other day. One teacher asked me earlier this year for some easy, reasonably priced recipes. I shared them and she has had success with them.

Anyway, I was talking about how I try to use leftovers if I can go save money. For example, we have been having sausage patties on Sunday for brunch. We usually have a few leftover. Last week I took the leftover sausage and put it an egg strata. This week I will put it with macaroni and cheese. One person sort of turned up her nose and said I was cheap. Using leftovers?

Maybe I am cheap, but I like to think I am saving money and. Of wasting food.

    I think you're smart to use leftovers to create a new meal. I see the individual making the comments as downright dumb! She feeds her trash can and the money wasted is incredible. In a year it would likely have funded travel to a resort. The rest of the world is horrified by our wasteful practices. I wonder if she can imagine herself standing at the trash burning a series of $5 dollar bills.

    Seriously? I find her response kind of ridiculous. If I had leftover sausage I would have probably crumbled (or sliced depending on the what type) it for our weekly pizza. I'd rather be called cheap than to be called wasteful. Better to eat the sausage than pay for it to be thrown away. I find that the best response to that sort of person is to say, "Thank you!" and give them a big smile. It disconcerts them because they were meaning it to be an insult.

    Another way to put it is that you save time and energy by preparing the some ingredients for some of the coming week's meals ahead of time. So it is not leftovers so much as it is expert planning.

    The person who said that sounds like she would find a way to insult you about anything. If it wasn't about being cheap it would be about your clothes or something else.

    What an idiot! It's cheap not to throw away something that's perfectly resuable? So we should just throw everything in our landfills till they burst? Dumb, and insulting, too. Steer clear of this person.

    Oh my goodness...how utterly rude! Is this the same person who was all excited about your new designer purse and when she found out it was $8 and used, didn't think it was such a great deal? Definately steer clear of this person! I would use the sausages in something else too...nice job for not being wasteful.

    Wow! Guess a bunch of us are cheap around this site, I use left overs all the time. If I have too much left over I freeze them in individual portions and use them as homemade t.v. dinners, I'm cheap and lazy! lol
