Zombie Preparedness Month

February 10th, 2017 at 12:28 am

OK, only in Illinois would there be a piece of legislation stating October is Zombie Preparedness Month.

Granted, the person wants folks to be prepared for natural disasters, but even that goes beyond the norm for sensationalism. Yikes!

Actually they are following along with the CDC who created a web page in 2006 about preparing for a Zombie Apocalypse. Google it. THe page is funny and was part of a push for family emergency preparedness.

Thanks, Kiki! It's just that Illinois hasn't had a budget for almost two years and our legislators are passing silly stuff instead of getting down and passing a budget. I guess emergency preparedness is important, but it is the sensationalism of the name that struck me funny.

While I understand your frustration about your state operating without a budget, miles and miles away. I took the stupidest things, grabbed the kids and dog and followed the directed route. It never occurred to me that ATMs, CCs nor pumps at gas stations shut down. It was all very orderly and dozens of work camps were evacuated with nearly no notice. It was all very orderly, only one non direct loss of life but all emergency services in the entire province went into overdrive. The population pitched in, anyway they could, offering homestay, meals, money, whatever was needed. It was months before anyone but 1st responders were allowed back. One whole community was burned to the ground. No jobs, no pay, but their bills kept rolling in. It will be years until all insurance claims are finialized.

Since our initial experience we have a 'contact person' in another city who can co ordinate our activities since we're likely to be in different places. We've money in the cars in case ATMs and CCs are shut down and more importantly we've old back packs with [rotating] emergency supplies in each of the cars.
