Money Talks

February 25th, 2025 at 04:00 pm
A friend shared this with me. Since many of you are commenting about how you are not happy with the current administration. As we know, money talks.

Hi,

The People's Union is calling for an Economic Blackout on February 28 to protest the Administration's attack on diversity in our country.

Here's a Newsweek article:

Here's a summary of actions to NOT do on February 28:

WHEN:
FRIDAY FEBRUARY 28TH. from 12:00 AM to 11:59 PM.

WHAT NOT TO DO:
• Do not make any purchases.
• Do not shop online, or in-store
• No Amazon
• No Walmart
• No Best Buy
   Nowhere!
• No McDonalds

DO NOT SPEND MONEY ON FOOD:

• Fast Food
• Gas
• Major Retailers
• Do not use Credit or Debit Cards for non essential spending.

WHAT YOU CAN DO IF NECESSARY:

• Only buy essentials of absolutely necessary items such as
(Food, Medicine, Emergency Supplies)
•If you must spend, ONLY support small, local businesses.

SPREAD THE MESSAGE
• Talk about it.
• Post about it.
• Document your actions that day!

WHY THIS MATTERS!
• Corporations and banks only care about their bottom line.
• If we disrupt the economy for just ONE day, it sends a powerful message.
• If they don't listen we make the next blackout longer.
• This is our first action.
• Our numbers are powerful.
• This is our first action.
• This is how we make  history.

AGAIN,
• FEBRUARY 28TH. ✊🏾
• The 24 Hour Economic Black Out Begins.

You know what's interesting to me? That is the same day as the beginning of Ramadan. Not that I am Muslim or anything, but just thought it was an interesting coincidence.

As for me, I am no stranger to no-spend day challenges, and I am quite certain the same is true for fellow SA'ers here as well. So, sure thing, you say no spend challenge? I say challenge accepted.

Apparently from what I have been reading online (and yes we all know it is subjective) but target has lost over 15 billion from something similar because people wont shop there anymore..good luck I hope it makes some positive changes over there for you all

I say that a blackout is not going to make any difference at all. This is because the very next day, everyone is going to go back to their convenience store stops, grocery shopping, buying gas, and other shopping.

Anonymous, this one-day blackout is consumers flexing their (collective) muscle. Plans are already underway to do lengthier blackout periods targeting specific retailers sucking up to Trump.

    Borrowing from Tabs, "Challenge accepted."

I plan on not spending that day as well, I hope the message is heard. Interestingly enough, with a recent move and job change, my life has been a bit chaotic so I'm not shopping at Target as much as I used to, my Target credit card expired and I *think* I asked for a replacement but haven't put it in my wallet yet but I got a letter from them asking about where I've been....apparently I've been mised. Target is known for being in the business of tracking consumer behavior so we all have profiled on record with them.

We will not be spending tomorrow either.

    I'm in.

It was encouraging to me this morning to hear news coverage (TV) of today's blackout. So retailers (and others) are definitely aware of what's being planned via social media. They will be watching.

I will be going on a nice walk today and going to the gym. No shopping involved.

Glad you pointed that out, Patient Saver!

Thank you, Good Living, Petunia, and Joan.of.the.Arch!
