Are we great yet?

July 17th, 2025 at 11:12 pm

I normally don't comment much on politics, but today I was taking a break from some housework and the White House press secretary was on the news talking about all the wondrous things that have happened since DT has taken office. This isn't a quote, but something along the lines of groceries are cheaper, gas is cheaper, and so on and so forth. I don't know about you, dear readers, but I'm not seeing a big reduction in the price of groceries. Gas fluctuates, but it isn't like it has come down all that much. I lost a lot of money in retirement savings because some of it is invested in the stock market. I started making some of it back, finally, but it's not like I'm getting rich. I'm dreading the trip to the grocery store and if we eat out, it seems like everyone has raised their prices because their prices have gone up as well. So, do you feel you are better off?

No, not at all! Grocery prices have only risen! All you can expect to hear from them is propaganda. Going out to eat is also getting pretty darn expensive. I can't think of a single sector where prices haven't jumped.

I hate everything that is happening in our country and I am furious at the people who support the current administration.
We are being blatantly lied to 24/7. Much we can’t verify - like did we destroy nuclear capability in Iran.
But everybody pays for food, and that anyone believes the price of groceries is down is just beyond belief.

I don’t see how people support the inhumane methods being employed to deport people.
I can see why people who aren’t financially literate believe the lies about tariffs.
I think a lot of people think they will never need the ACA, Medicaid, SNAP, WIC, Headstart, a Small Business or Student loan although many of them will.

But that food costs are going down?
I anyone who believes that is in a cult.

Like the Nazi propaganda techniques. I can't find a source, but the idea that, if you repeat a lie often enough, people will believe it is essentially the premise here.

I don't believe that is true for everybody, but I do believe that it is mostly true for those who do not keep up regularly with the news--which, sadly, is most of the population. Only about a quarter of the population reads a newspaper on a regular basis and over half get their news from social media (the younger, the more likely)--and social media consumption is generally biased towards your existing beliefs.

I believe that it is much more likely that the OPPOSITE of whatever the administration says is the truth, sadly.

Prices have most definitely NOT improved where I am, and if anything has crept up even higher. I predict that the on-going Tariff wars will only make matters worse.

And yes, the people in the Trump administration are openly lying about most everything, and supportive outlets like Fox “News” and NewMax are just fanning the flames even further. Most people who only watch those sources will not know the truth, even though the price hikes are right in front of their eyes.

What’s fascinating is that some of the MAGA cult members have apparently drawn the line in the sand as unacceptable over the lack of disclosure over the Epstein case. I was shocked when I heard that, because so far, it didn’t seem like MAGA was willing to the draw the line anywhere, regardless of what it is. So what gives here? In any case, any line they’re willing to draw is better than no lines at all.

    Everything is expensive.

As someone who very closely watches her spending, I can tell you costs are zooming up. Everything. Groceries, gas, housing, insurance, restaurants, clothing, goods. Nothing is going down, or even staying stable.

Anything that is reported by current administration is a lie. I don't think any of them are even capable of telling the truth, probably don't even have any concept of what the truth is anymore. The "truth" is whatever they want to peddle, and whatever will benefit them.

The very idea that they can say outright that groceries are cheaper just shows their contempt for the public.
